About the LILA Archery Club

More Details

Currently, the archery club has a single shooting session held each week on Friday evenings. Also, this year the club will compete in local school archery competitions.

The club is run by volunteers and will have visiting coaches to teach the students this year.

The cost is $55 per person for a group of 10 sessions. The archery club will run during the school year and follow the school calendar as closely as possible. The archery club will meet on most Fridays from 6 to 8 PM in the LILA gym. All of the equipment is provided by the club.

It is expected that every participant will understand and follow the club rules as well as understand the consequences of not abiding by the rules. The students (and volunteers) need to appreciate that everyone’s safety is a primary concern. If a student fails to follow any of the club rules, the student will be removed from the archery club (with no refunds).

It is essential that parents volunteer; parents must take turns to help set up and take down the equipment prior to and following the Friday evening sessions. Parents do not need to stay on site during these sessions. Without volunteers, the club cannot function. Lack of participation on the part of a parent will result in the child being removed from the archery club. An online signup system has been created at SignUpGenius.

Also, parents of kids in any competition are required to help with the competition.

All archery club announcements will be published in the LILA school newsletter:
El Noticero (快报 "kuai bao").

About the Program

The club serves the LILA community and is run by volunteers and visiting coaches. The program is based on NASP (see below) and is designed to teach international style target archery. The program will teach about safety, the equipment and technique as well as mental concentration, core strengthening and self-improvement.

The range is set up in the LILA gymnasium (by volunteer parents) and uses a set of 80 cm bulls-eye targets with an arrow curtain behind. The equipment is state-of-the art, designed to fit every student and is provided by the club for use during club activities.

Admission to Archery Club

The club serves the LILA community. A limited number of students can participate in the club. No prior archery experience is needed. Currently, there is only room for 20 students. Students must be in the third grade or higher to participate in the archery club. This is due, in part, to the strength required to draw a bow for a two hour session.

Everyone who is interested in archery club must come to the archery club round up including those who participated in the previous year (though they will be given preference). The time and place of the round up are published in the school newsletter. It is held early in the Fall each year. Any open positions will be filled on a first come basis.

We are looking for parents to train to run the archery club from week to week. There is an 8-hour National Archery in the Schools Program® Basic Archery Instructor Training Program for those that are interested. The students whose parents run the archery club will have priority for open slots. These students will also participate at no cost (free).
